Religious Education Program

Many years ago the name for this elementary age program was CCD (which actually was short for Confraternity of Christian Doctrine). Today many people still use the term even though few people remember its original meaning. These classes were started for students who were enrolled in public schools so that they had an opportunity to continue their education in the Catholic Faith. Today we may also hear the term catechesis, which comes from a Greek word, it means to re-echo (the Word of God). Our volunteer teachers in the Religious Education Program are called “Catechists”. The Newark Archdiocesan Office which oversees the programs in each parish is called the Catechetical Office.

Today in most parishes the term FAITH FORMATION is used. It includes education as well as formation in our Catholic life. The National Directory for Catechesis shares with us these SIX tasks of Catechesis:

To promote knowledge of the Faith
To promote the understanding of Liturgy and the Sacraments
To promote Moral Formation in Jesus Christ
To teach the Christian how to experience Prayer with Jesus Christ
To prepare the Christian to Live in Community
To promote a Missionary Spirit that prepares the faithful to be present as Christians in society

All of the Religion textbooks used in our parish have included a grade level developmental process of these six tasks of Catechesis. Not all at once… but gradually as we grow, learn, share and live our Catholic Faith together in the community of Corpus Christi Parish.

Religious Education Registration

In order to register a child for Religious Education classes the family must be registered parishioners of Corpus Christi Parish. Parish form may be downloaded from site

If the child is entering first grade or transferring from another parish you must also fill out a Permanent Record Form. Click on the links top left for forms to download, complete and return to office.

We are always in need of Catechists and Teacher’s Aide to assist in class. Please consider volunteering in this worthwhile ministry.

Teen Ministry

The Assumption - Corpus Christi High School Teen Ministry leads teens closer to Christ and offers them a place where they will be accepted unconditionally. The Teen Ministry at Corpus Christi includes a weekly Life Teen Mass (Sundays, 6:00 p.m. in the Church). The gatherings move between Assumption and Corpus Christ Parish. While attending Life Teen events, teens build relationships with each other and learn about such topics as morality, family life, and the Eucharist.
